Sexual Assault Arrest – C14-239654
On November 7, 2014 between 6:00 p.m. and 10:30 p.m., a male suspect made contact with a 27 year-old female known to him as an acquaintance.
 
The two made their way to a residence located in the 1500 block of Notre Dame Avenue at which time a serious sexual assault occurred.
 
The incident was reported to police and members of the Sex Crimes Unit became involved.
 
On November 11, 2014 at approximately 8:30 a.m., Lawrence James SMAIL, 35 years-old of Winnipeg was located and placed under arrest.
 
He has been charged with the following due to his alleged involvement:
 
Sexual Assault
Breach of Recognizance
 
He was remanded into custody.
 
 
Stolen Vehicle Arrest – R14-79931
On November 11, 2014 at approximately 3:35 a.m., several units responded to the area of Fairlane Avenue and Topaz Road regarding a stolen Chevrolet Silverado.
 
Officers pursued the vehicle and occupant, however aborted in the area of Portage Avenue and Moray Street.
 
Attending members located the abandoned vehicle in the area of the 4000 block of Roblin Boulevard. It was at this time members of the Canine Unit began tracking the suspect.
 
A short time later, Canine and Patrol members located the lone suspect who was attempting to conceal himself in a yard in the 3700 block of Vialoux Drive.
 
The male was taken into custody.
 
Shawn Gordon BLANCO, 19 years-old of Winnipeg has been charged with the following due to his alleged involvement:
 
Possess property obtained by Crime over $5000.00
Dangerous operation of a motor vehicle
Flight while pursued by peace officer
Obstruct peace officer
Fail to comply with probation order
HTA – Drive with driver's liability insurance
HTA – Drive while disqualified
 
He was remanded into custody.
