Homicide Arrest – C14-111775
On May 30, 2014 shortly before 12:00 noon, a group of males came upon a male known to them while he was sleeping in the area of the 600 block of Century Street.
 
The male suspects proceeded to assault the victim about the body causing critical injuries. The suspects fled and sometime later a passer-by located the injured male. The victim, identified as Wayne Michael HARPER, 31 years-old was transported to hospital and pronounced deceased.  
 
Members of the Homicide Unit and Major Crimes Unit became involved in a lengthy investigation.
 
After determining that the cause of death was as a result of blunt trauma and obtaining suspect information, investigators arrested Oliver James OKEMOW, 39 years-old on December 21, 2014.
 
After consultation with the Crown, OKEMOW has been charged with Manslaughter due to his alleged involvement.
 
The investigation is continuing.
 
 
Theft and Weapon Arrests – C14-271444
In a proactive response to vehicle break-ins, thefts and shoplifting, members of the East District Community Support Unit with the assistance of Patrol members attended to a shopping centre parking lot located in the 1500 block of Regent Avenue West.
 
While there, officers observed a vehicle and occupants acting in a suspicious manner. The vehicle was noted circling the lot repeatedly having no intention of parking.
 
At one point, a male suspect was observed running from the vehicle and returning with merchandise from a nearby business. Officers noted that the item was not in a bag and the suspect's actions were suspicious in nature.
 
The vehicle was stopped and three adult males were taken into custody.
 
A sawed-off shotgun was located inside the vehicle, including the recovery of electronics recently stolen from a nearby business.
 
A 25 year-old male, 23 year-old male and 29 year-old male are facing numerous weapon offences and theft related charges.
 
They were released on a promise to appear.
