Criminal Negligence Cause Bodily Harm Arrest – C15-318
On January 1, 2015 at approximately 6:30 a.m. emergency personnel were dispatched to the 500 block of Pritchard Avenue for the report of an infant being located outside.

Upon arrival a 19-month-old was located and transported to hospital with life-threatening injuries.  She is currently in stable condition.

A 17-year-old male was arrested and later turned over to members of the Child Abuse Unit.

Investigation revealed that the accused, along with several others, had been socializing within a nearby residence when an altercation resulted in one of the party goers being chased out of the residence and down the street.  It was at this time the accused took the child, not adequately dressed for the weather, and ran from the home.  A short distance from the residence the accused fell, landing on top of the child which resulted in her sustaining several injuries.  The accused then left the child in a recycling bin and returned to the residence where he got into a physical altercation with a 13-year-old female.

The male, who had originally been the one to be chased from the party, heard the child's cries and located her within the recycling bin.

The 17-year-old male of Winnipeg has been charged with several offences for his alleged involvement, including:

  • Cause Bodily Harm by Criminal Negligence
  • Abandoning Child
  • Assault
  • Possession or consumption of liquor by minor

He was detained in custody.
