Friday, February 27, 2015       Serious Motor Vehicle Collision Involving Pedestrians – C15-40832 On February 27, 2015 at approximately 12:15 a.m., members of the Winnipeg Police Service were requested to attend a restaurant located in 1500 block of Regent Avenue West regarding a male and female refusing to pay their bill.   Prior to police arrival, the couple left the business in an intoxicated state and proceeded to cross Regent Avenue near Stapon Road in northbound direction. They successfully crossed all east and westbound lanes until they were struck by a westbound truck travelling in the curb lane.   The 41-year-old female pedestrian was transported from the scene in critical condition. She has been upgraded to guarded condition. A 38-year-old male pedestrian sustained non-life threatening injuries and is in stable condition.   Members of the Central Traffic Unit were notified and continue to investigate. Road closures were in effect for several hours. They have since been re-opened to all traffic. Thank you for your patience.   Anyone with information regarding the collision is encouraged to contact investigators directly at 204-986-6271.     Robbery Arrest – C15-40690 On February 26, 2015 at approximately 8:30 p.m., a 15-year-old female was approached by an unknown male while in the area of the 1000 block of Manitoba Avenue.   The suspect grabbed the victim from behind while in possession of a knife and demanded money. The victim fled the area after dropping her phone and contacted police. The suspect also fled while in possession of the victim's phone.    A call was subsequently made to the victim's phone at which time the suspect answered. It was at this time the suspect requested $100.00 for the return of the phone.   Officers attended to the area of Selkirk Avenue and McPhillips Street as directed by the suspect. Thursday, February 26, 2015     Fatal Motor Vehicle Collision - C15-40056 On February 25, 2015, just after 11:00 p.m. the Winnipeg Police Service received the report of a suspicious vehicle in the 700 block of Cavalier Drive, believed to be related to a commercial break & enter that had occurred a short time earlier in the 800 block of Cavalier Drive.    The vehicle was seen by uniform members in the area of Portage Avenue and Moray Street.  The driver of the vehicle refused to stop and fled south on Moray.  Police initiated a traffic pursuit, notifying the communications centre, who assigned AIR1 to the incident.  The pursuit was aborted in the area of William Clement Parkway and Grant Avenue.  Shortly after AIR1 spotted the vehicle, with officers on the ground taking on a secondary support role.  AIR1 tracked the vehicle west on Roblin Boulevard and then south on Wescana Street where it was observed to crash into a ditch.   One suspect fled from the vehicle and was apprehended a short distance away.  The driver was transported to hospital in critical condition and later succumbed to his injuries.   Manitoba RCMP has responsibility over the investigation of the fatal collision.   It has been learned that the vehicle had been stolen earlier in the evening and was used during the commercial break & enter.   No further information is available at this time.   The investigation is continuing by members of the West District Crime Unit. Wednesday, February 25, 2015    Robbery – C15-39322    On February 24, 2015, shortly before midnight members of the Winnipeg Police Service were dispatched to the 500 block of Wardlaw Avenue for the report of taxi driver having just been robbed.   Officers met with the driver who advised that he had been robbed by two unknown males, one of whom was armed with a weapon.  The suspects demanded and received personal property and money from the driver.   Suspect #1 is described as: Aboriginal in appearance, 20-30 years of age, 5'6" tall with a slim build.   Suspect #2 is described as: Aboriginal in appearance, 20-30 years of age, with a heavy build.   The investigation is continuing by members of the Major Crimes Unit. Tuesday, February 24, 2015     Commercial Robbery Arrests – C15-12140 On January 18, 2015, shortly before 1:00 a.m. Winnipeg Police Service members were dispatched to a convenience store in the 2300 block of Ness Avenue for the report of a commercial robbery.   Officers learned that two males, with their identities concealed, and one armed with a weapon had entered the store and immediately attended to the counter.  While the armed suspect watched over the lone clerk, the second male proceeded to steal an undisclosed amount of cigarettes.  Both suspects then fled the store.   The clerk was not injured.   Members of the Major Crimes Unit continued with the investigation and were able to identify the two suspects.   On February 5th one of the suspects was located and arrested without incident.   Morgan Marcel LECLERC, 20 years of Winnipeg has been charged with Robbery, Disguise with Intent, Possession of a Weapon for Dangerous Purpose and Fail to Comply with Probation Order for his alleged involvement:   He was detained in custody.   On February 23rd the second suspect was located and arrested without incident   Richard Scott RAYLAND, 21 years of Winnipeg has been charged with Robbery, Disguise with Intent and Fail to Comply with Probation Order for his alleged involvement.   He was detained in custody.     Male Shot – C15-38688 On February 24, 2015, shortly after 1:30 a.m. emergency personnel were dispatched to the 200 block of Dufferin Avenue for the report of a male shot.   An adult male was found suffering from a gunshot wound to the upper body.  He was transported to hospital in critical condition and later upgraded to stable.   No further information is available.   The investigation is continuing by members of the Major Crimes Unit. Saturday, February 21, 2015         Serious Assault Investigation – C15-36661 On February 21, 2015 at approximately 12:20 a.m., officers and other emergency personnel responded to the 700 block of Pritchard Avenue regarding an assault that had taken place.   At this stage of the investigation it appears that two males became involved in a verbal argument which escalated into a physical confrontation. As a result, a 59 year-old male sustained serious injuries and was transported from the scene in critical condition.   No arrest has been made at this time.
