Drug Investigation Arrest – C15-185516
On September 3, 2015 at approximately 5:50 p.m., members of the Street Crime Unit attempted a traffic stop while in the area of Corydon Avenue and Stafford Street involving an Audi sport utility vehicle.
 
The driver of the vehicle drove off at a high rate of speed eventually abandoning his vehicle and fleeing on foot. Officers continued to pursue the male, taking him into custody in the area of the 800 block of Warsaw Avenue.
 
At the time of his arrest, he was found to be in possession of three cellular devices.
 
Members of the Canine Unit conducted a track from the location in which the suspect abandoned his vehicle and where he was arrested. It was determined that the suspect discarded a men's purse while being pursued by officers.
 
The following items were located inside the purse:
 

  • Loaded 9mm handgun
  • 45-80mg – Oxycotin – street value estimated at $3600.00

 
The investigation continued by members of the Street Crime Unit, with the assistance of Division 11 Community Support Unit, Tactical Support Team, National Weapons Enforcement Support Team (NWEST) and West District Patrol members.
 
A search warrant was also executed at a residence in the 3300 block of Pembina Highway. The following was located and seized by officers:
 

  • 4.7 ounces of cocaine – street value estimated at $8460.00
  • Approximately $35,000.00 Canadian currency

 
Andrei DUMITRESCU, 26-years-old of Winnipeg has been charged with numerous weapon and drug related offences due to his alleged involvement.
 
He was remanded into custody.
