Homicide Investigation – C16-40568
On February 27, 2016, shortly before 3:00 a.m., emergency personnel were dispatched to the 800 block of Main Street for the report of a male having been assaulted.
   
A 43-year-old male was located and transported to hospital in critical condition suffering from injuries as the result of an apparent assault.  He later succumbed to those injuries.  The victim has been identified as Henry KIPLING of Winnipeg.
   
Investigation has revealed that the victim was assaulted twice, within a short period of time, by two separate individuals.
   
A female suspect is described as: mid to late thirties with long black hair tied in a ponytail.
 
A male suspect is described as: early twenties with an average height and build.
   
The investigation is continuing by members of the Homicide Unit. Anyone with information regarding this matter or the identity of the suspect(s) is asked to contact investigators at (204) 986-6508 or Crime Stoppers at (204) 786-TIPS (8477).
   
   
Attempt Murder Arrest – C16-40776
On February 27, 2016, shortly after 12:00 p.m. members of the Winnipeg Police Service were dispatched to the area of Jubilee Avenue and Osborne Street for the report of a male having discharged a firearm.
   
Several units attended and the male was located a short time later in the area of Nassau Street South and Walker Avenue.  Due to his combative behaviour, members were forced to use their Electronic Control Device (Taser) while taking the male into custody.  The firearm was recovered.
   
Members of the Major Crimes Unit continued with the investigation.
   
It was learned that the accused had met up with a 19-year-old male and a 17-year-old female, both known to him, in the area of the St. Vital Bridge.  The accused produced a firearm and discharged it towards the male victim, who was not struck.  The two victims were able to flee on foot and made their way to the female's residence.  A short time later, the accused saw two family members of the female, along with the 19-year-old male victim, in the area of Walker Avenue and Daly Street South where he immediately began firing towards their van.  No one was struck during this incident.  Police members, already alerted to the initial shooting and in the area, heard these shots and quickly located and arrested the accused.
   
Two police members suffered minor injuries during the arrest for which they received treatment.
   
For his alleged involvement, Bradley Lewis HALE, 19 years of Winnipeg has been charged with Attempt to Commit Murder Using a Firearm x 4, Assault with a Weapon, Assault a Peace Officer x 2 and numerous firearms related offences.
   
He was detained in custody.
   
   
Firearms Investigation Arrest – C16-40700
On February 27, 2016, at approximately 9:30 a.m. members of the Winnipeg Police Service attended to the 600 block of Union Avenue East for the report of a firearm having been seen.  Information provided was that a male had been seen entering a residence with what appeared to be an automatic weapon.
   
In the interest of public safety, multiple units including Tactical Support and Uniform members were dispatched and the area around the residence was closed to vehicle and pedestrian traffic.
   
As a result, 10 individuals were eventually removed from the residence.  An airsoft rifle with magazine was located.
   
An 18-year-old male has been charged with Fail to Comply Condition Recognizance.
   
He was detained in custody.

   
Fatal Fire Investigation – C16-51251
On February 28, 2016, at approximately 2:30 a.m. emergency personnel were dispatched to the 300 block of Alexander Avenue for the report of a fire.
   
Several people were transported to hospital, four of them in critical condition.  Two women, 20 and 21 years of age, later succumbed to their injuries.
   
The cause of the fire has not yet been determined and the investigation is continuing by members of the Arson Unit.
   
No further information is available at this time.
