Update - Homicide Investigation C16-25752
As previously released -On February 6, 2016 at approximately 5:00 a.m., emergency personnel responded to an assault in progress at a residence located in the 500 block of Stella Avenue.
Attending members located a 39-year-old female nearby identified as, Mavis DUCHARME having sustained serious injuries. She was transported to hospital in critical condition and later pronounced deceased.
Members of the Homicide Unit have been notified and continue to investigate. An autopsy is pending and interviews are on-going.

Pursuit and Impaired Driving Arrest C16-25717
On February 6, 2016 at approximately 3:10 a.m., members of the Winnipeg Police Service observed a black Ford Focus being driven in an unsafe manner and having suspended registration.
Officers followed the vehicle westbound on Portage Avenue near Maryland Street. A pursuit was initialled due to the reckless manner of driving by the suspect. The Ford Focus was observed to be driven at high speeds, disregarding traffic control devices and having no regard for public safety.
Officers made efforts to contain and effectively stop the suspect vehicle before it came to a stop near Broadway and Maryland Street. The lone female driver attempted to flee on foot however due to the efforts of Patrol members and Canine she was taken into custody.
Sarah Lynn VERMETTE, 24-years-old of Winnipeg has been charged with the following due to her alleged involvement:
Drive while Ability Impaired
Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle
Flight while Pursued by Peace Officer
Driving while Disqualified
Fail or Refuse to Provide Sample Drug Evaluation
Fail to Comply with Probation Order x 2
HTA Drive with Registration Suspended
HTA Drive without Motor Vehicle Liability Insurance
She was remanded into custody.
