Homicide Investigation: Simone Sanderson – Public Assistance Requested – C12-176500

As previously released, the Winnipeg Police Service Homicide Unit has been investigating the murder of Simone Sanderson. Sanderson's body was discovered September 2, 2012 in the area of Main Street and Burrows Avenue.

It has been three and one-half years since Simone was murdered and while progress has been made, the investigation is still on-going.

Simone SANDERSON's body was discovered during the afternoon of September 2, 2012 in a vacant lot at the south-west corner of Burrows Avenue and Main Street. Her body had been concealed.

Simone was last seen alive during the evening of Sunday, August 26, 2012 in the north-end area of the city.  As a result of the investigation, it is believed that Simone was murdered during the evening of Sunday August 26 or during the early morning hours of August 27.

The following are images of where Simone's body was located:

It is also believed that Simone was brought to the area where she was murdered by the suspect who was operating an older model, small-style, 2-door car.

The investigation has resulted in the development of a male DNA profile that detectives believe will be crucial in identifying the individual responsible. There are also indications that the suspect returned to the crime scene in the nights following Simone's murder.

At the time of her death Sanderson was described as 23-years-old, an aboriginal female, slight in stature just over five feet tall. She had long brown hair past her shoulders. When she was found she was wearing a pink skort and a black sports bra.

The Winnipeg Police Service is requesting the public's assistance in this investigation. Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to contact investigators at 204-986-6508 or Crime Stoppers at 204-786-TIPS (8477).
