Fatal Motor Vehicle Collision – C16-74827
On April 16, 2016 at approximately 5:20 a.m., emergency personnel responded to a serious collision involving one vehicle and multiple occupants.
   
Attending members located a severely damaged Ford 500 next to a tree in the 1100 block of Wall Street. The investigation revealed that three occupants were involved. A 35-year-old male (driver) of the vehicle was pronounced deceased. A 30-year-old female and 25-year-old female sustained serious injuries as a result of the collision.
   
At this time, it appears that that the car was travelling at a high rate of speed northbound on Wall Street near Sargent Avenue when the driver lost control. As a result, the car left the roadway and collided with a fence and large tree.
   
Members of the Central Traffic Unit attended and continue to investigate.

Grow Operation Arrests – R16-28421
On April 17, 2016 at approximately 4:50 a.m., members of the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responded to a working fire at a residence located in the 800 block of Ashburn Street.
   
Upon arrival, it was determined that two occupants including several cats escaped without injury.
   
Once the fire was extinguished, a marihuana grow operation was discovered inside the lower level of the home.
   
Members of the Winnipeg Police Service Marihuana Grow Operation Unit were notified and attended. A multi-stage cannabis marihuana grow operation was confirmed and subsequently dismantled after a Controlled Drug and Substance Act search warrant was executed. The following was located and seized by officers:
   

  • 292 Cannabis marihuana plants – estimated street value of over $327,000.00
  • Grow operation equipment valued at $5000.00
  • 157 grams of marihuana  - estimated street value of $1,570.00

 
A 40-year-old male and 30-year-old female are facing the following charges:
   
Possession of a Scheduled Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking
Produce a Scheduled Substance
   
Both were released on a Promise to appear.
