Traffic Pursuit – Arrest – C16-123739

On June 16, 2016 at approximately 5:35 a.m., members of the Winnipeg Police Service attempted a traffic stop involving a suspected stolen vehicle (Ford Raptor) while in the area of St. Mary's Road and Warde Avenue.

The vehicle sped off having no regard for public safety. The suspect proceeded toward the perimeter and continued at a high rate of speed in a westbound direction.   

He then drove eastbound on McGillivray Boulevard from the Perimeter reaching speeds of approximately 170 km/hr.

Officers successfully deployed multiple tire deflation devices. The suspect continued eastbound and at times, into on-coming traffic. The Raptor made minor contact with an uninvolved civilian vehicle before coming to a stop in a ditch near Kenaston Boulevard and McGillivary Boulevard.

A 20 year old male is facing numerous charges, some of which include: Flight while Pursued by Peace Officer, Dangerous Operation of Motor Vehicle, Resist Peace Officer, Possession of a Weapon, Driving While Ability Impaired, Driving with More Than 80mgs of Alcohol in Blood, Possess Break-in Instruments and Theft Under $5000.00.   

The investigation is on-going by members of the East District Crime Unit and additional charges are pending.
