Assault with a Weapon Investigation – C16-151585
On July 22, 2016 at approximately 12:20 a.m., Winnipeg Police were called to the 600 block of Main Street for the report of an assault. 

Upon attending, officers located an injured male, who was conveyed to hospital in critical condition.

Investigators are currently speaking with numerous individuals.

The investigation is continuing by members of the Major Crimes Unit. Anyone with information regarding the incident or suspects involved is asked to contact investigators at 204-986-6219 or Crime Stoppers at 204-786-TIPS (8477).


Internet Child Luring- Arrest- C16-151015
On July 20, 2016, members of the Winnipeg Police Service Counter Exploitation Unit became involved in an investigation involving a male who had advertised on a popular social media web site to meet with "YOUNG" women for sexual encounters.

An undercover officer, posing as a 15 year old female, responded to the advertisement.  The two began communicating via text message.  The male made arrangements to meet with the undercover officer and offered money in exchange for sexual acts.

On July 21, 2016, the male was arrested and identified as;

Derek SMART, 38 years, of Winnipeg.

SMARTis facing the following charges:

-        Luring a Person Under 16 years
-        Obtaining Sexual Services from a Person Under 18 years

He has been detained in custody.

Child Sexual Abuse Imagery Arrest – R16-45403
Members of the Winnipeg Police Service Internet Child Exploitation (ICE) and Technological Crime Units have been involved in an investigation regarding child sexual abuse imagery.

As a result of the investigation, investigators conducted a search warrant at a residence in the St-Boniface area of the city, in which electronic devices were seized.

On July 21, 2016, Steve SUOMU, 49-years-old, was arrested and has been charged with

-Possession of Child Pornography,
-Access Child Pornography

SUOMUwas detained in custody.
