Update - Attempt Abduction Investigation – C16-131229

As previously released - On Saturday June 25, 2016 at approximately 4:00 p.m., an 11 year old child was walking alone in the area of Simpson Avenue and Besant Street when he was approached by an unknown male in a vehicle.
   
The suspect drove past the victim and parked. He then exited his vehicle and yelled out, "Get in my car now." The victim attempted to run however, the suspect took hold of his right wrist and proceeded to drag him towards his vehicle. The victim began yelling and striking at the suspects arm, eventually breaking free. The victim ran home and notified a parent, who in turn contacted police.
   
 The victim sustained a minor injury due to the incident.
   
The suspect male/vehicle was last seen turning onto Besant Street. The suspect and vehicle are described as follows:
   

 

 

 
   
   
Aboriginal in appearance, approximately 24 years old, medium build, fair complexion, between 6'3" – 6'6" tall, dark medium length hair, dark thin goatee and moustache, stained/yellowing and missing some teeth. He had a tattoo of a cross on his right forearm area described as white and black in colour with a chain design looping through it. He was wearing a black hoodie with some white on the front, black pants with a hole in the left knee, black shoes with white trim around the sole area and sunglasses.
   
A newer model black van, tinted windows, possibly a Dodge Caravan with rust on the back and red colouring on the rear bumper.
   
The investigation is continuing by members of the East District Crime Unit.

Fatal Motor Vehicle Collision – C16-150491
On July 20, 2016 approximately 5:45 p.m.,emergency personnel responded to the area of Main Street and Logan Avenue regarding a serious collision involving a semi-trailer and a bicyclist.
                                                                                  
The investigation determined that an adult female was riding her bicycle northbound on Main Street on the west sidewalk approaching Logan Avenue.  The semi-trailer was also travelling northbound on Main Street while making a westbound turn on Logan Avenue when it collided with the female.  The victim was transported to hospital in critical condition where she succumbed to her injuries.
   
Investigators have not positively identified the deceased as she had no identification with her at the time of the collision.  The victim appears to be in her late 20's or early 30's, having a thin build and medium length dark brown hair. The bicycle she was riding was a Barletta ATB 12 with white with grey writing.
   
The Winnipeg Police Service is asking anyone that may have information regarding the identity of the deceased or who may have witnessed the collision to contact investigators in the Central Traffic Unit at 204-986-6271.
   
The driver of the semi-trailer has been identified and is cooperating with investigators.  No charges have been laid at this time.
   
   
Weapons Arrest – C16-150449
On July 20, 2016 at approximately 4:20 p.m., a male and female were walking in the area of Isabel Street and Ross Avenue, with the male being in an intoxicated state.
   
The female was observed carrying a see through plastic bag containing, what appeared to be a handgun. Area residents observed the two suspects, including the contents of the bag and called police immediately.
   
Attending officers located and arrested both suspects in the area of the 200 block of Isabel Street without incident.
   
A bag containing a loaded handgun was confirmed and seized. 
   
Shalace Autunm THICKFOOT, 20 years and Shane Justin SUMNER, 27 years have been charged with numerous weapon related offences due to their alleged involvement.
   
Both remain in custody.
