Robbery Arrest – C16-162783
On August 6, 2016 at approximately 2:45 a.m., a 26-year-old male victim was in the area of Enfield Crescent and Goulet Street. The victim is restricted to a wheelchair for mobility. At this time, a suspect male covered his face with a bandana and approached the victim, assaulting and knocking him to the ground. The victim, unable to defend himself, was robbed of several personal effects and the suspect fled the area.

A bystander subsequently attended to the victim and helped him back into his wheelchair but left prior to police arrival.

The suspect proceeded to the 400 block of Ritchot Street where he broke into a detached garage. He then went to the 400 block of Langevin Street where he attempted to break into another detached garage and broke into a nearby vehicle.

East District general patrol members responding to the area located and arrested the suspect. An investigation continued by members of the East District Crime Unit.

Brendan Andrew Mitchell, 23-years-old of Selkirk, has been charged with the following offences:

- Robbery
- Disguise with Intent
- Break & Enter – Commit Theft
- Break & Enter – With Intent
- Theft – Under $5,000

He has been detained in custody.

It is believed that the bystander who assisted the victim in the wheelchair may have witnessed the assault. As a result, the Winnipeg Police Service is asking this male or anyone with information regarding this incident to contact investigators with the East District Crime Unit at (204) 986-2868.

Fatal Motor Vehicle Collision – C16-163503
On August 7, 2016 at approximately 3:10 a.m., emergency personnel responded to the area of Bishop Grandin Boulevard and Waverley Street in response to a motor vehicle collision that had occurred involving a vehicle and a pedestrian.

The pedestrian, a 25-year-old female, was transported to hospital in critical condition where she succumbed to her injuries.

Members of the Central Traffic Unit continue to investigate.

The Winnipeg Police Service is asking anyone with information or who may have witnessed the collision to contact investigators with the Central Traffic Unit at (204) 986-6271.
