Robbery, Break & Enter – Arrests: C16-196140
On September 20, 2016 at approximately 2:30 a.m., Winnipeg Police arrested two adult males and six youths (3 males, 3 females) between the ages of 14 and 16 years old.
   
The group had been on a crime spree in the area of south Pembina Highway that began on the early morning of September 15 and continued until their arrest.
   
Garages and vehicles were broken into at thirteen residences in areas along Pembina Highway between Bishop Grandin Boulevard and Killarney Avenue. In addition, between 11:30 p.m. and 11:45 p.m. five of the suspects were involved in 2 separate armed robberies. In total, thirteen properties were victimized.
   
In the area of Pembina Highway and South Park Drive five of the group, armed with scissors and a length of chain, robbed and assaulted a 20-year-old male. The victim was robbed of his cell phone and identification. He sustained upper-body non-life-threatening injuries.
   
In the area of Chancellor Drive and Gaylene Place the same five accused, this time armed with a knife and a length of chain, robbed an 18-year-old male victim of his cell phone. The victim was not injured.
   
Police were initially contacted by victims of the robberies. Air-1, a canine unit, and general patrol officers quickly responded to the area. Air-1 and the canine unit were able to locate 6 of the suspects near Aspen Forest Point and Bridgeland Drive North. A short time later a report of break and enter, in progress, in the same vicinity was received. Aided by Air-1, two remaining suspects were located and arrested. Air-1 was also able to locate some of the stolen property which was identified by its heat signature.
   
In total, 75 separate charges were laid by investigators of the West District Crime Unit. The charges include: Robbery, Break and Enter, Possess Weapon, Fail to Comply with Recognizance and Assault with a Weapon. All of the accused were detained in custody.
