Thursday, April 20,2017 Robbery – Arrest: C17-79175 On April 19, 2017 at 1:30 p.m. Winnipeg Police responded to the report of an armed Robbery at a clothing store in the 600 block of St. James Street. The male suspect fled on a bicycle and was located by General Patrol members at the corner of Empress Street and Wellington Avenue. The suspect confronted officers, armed with a knife. Police deployed a Conductive Electrical Weapon (CEW), which was ineffective. The male then fled on foot, dropping his backpack in the process. The suspect attempted to carjack a passing vehicle but was unsuccessful.
General patrol members again confronted the suspect in the 1200 block of Empress Avenue. The male was still armed with a knife and officers again deployed a CEW. The suspect continued to resist officer's attempts to take him into custody. Police were able to physically overcome the suspect's resistance and take him into custody without injury. Officer's recovered the backpack which was found to contain a loaded .22 calibre rifle.
Johnathon Mark COUTURE, 28-years-old, was charged with the following offences: - Robbery x2 - Assault Peace Officer X5 - Possession of Prohibited or Restricted Firearm with Ammunition - Possession of Firearm, Restricted Weapon/Prohibited Weapon or Ammunition Contrary to Prohibition Order X2 - Carry Concealed Weapon - Possess Firearm Knowing it Possession is Unauthorized - Fail to Comply with Probation Order x3
Armed Robbery – Investigation: C17-79625 On April 19, 2017, at approximately 10:50 p.m., Winnipeg Police received a reported of an armed robbery that had occurred approximately 30 minutes earlier.
Police learned that the victim, a male in his twenties, was walking in the area of Portage Avenue and Main Street when he was confronted a male suspect. The suspect produced a handgun and demanded money. The victim was not injured and the suspect fled on foot with the victim's personal property.
The suspect is described as: - Caucasian male (darker skin) - approximately 5'6" in height - thin build
