Attempt Murder – Arrests: C17-126293
On June 10, 2017, the Winnipeg Police Service was called to the 100 block of Newdale Ave to check on the wellbeing of a person at this location. Upon arrival, General Patrol members located a 28-year-old male suffering severe head injuries. The male was transported to hospital in critical condition. He remains in hospital at this time.
On June 12, 2017, as a result of an investigation, members of the Major Crimes Unit identified and arrested Quenton Sidney James Beardy-Thorassie, 25-years, of Winnipeg.
He has been charged with Attempt Murder, Fail to Comply with Recognizance x2 and Fail to Appear (warrant).
The accused was detained in custody.
Assault: C17-110799
On May 24, 2017 at approximately 1:00 p.m., an unknown male boarded a Winnipeg Transit bus near St. Vital Shopping Centre. The male refused to pay and argued with the driver, before exiting the bus in the downtown area. A short time later, the driver observed the same male waiting at a bus stop at Ellice Ave and Simcoe Street. Due to people waiting to get on and off the bus, the driver had to stop. The suspect then threw a large piece of concrete at the driver, striking him in the head, and fled on foot.
The suspect is described as: a black male, 20-30 years of age, approximately 5'10" in height, 145 lbs, with braided black hair.
Suspicious Male: C17-128887
On June 13, 2017 at approximately 2:00 p.m. Winnipeg Police were called to the University of Winnipeg regarding a suspicious male in the women's washroom.
A staff member reported that approximately 8:00 a.m. she entered a female washroom and upon entering a stall she heard another person enter the washroom. She then observed a male crawling on the washroom floor looking under stall doors before standing up and looking through a gap in the door of her stall. The staff member yelled and the male fled.
The suspect is described as an aboriginal male, 20 - 25 years of age, 5'7" - 5"9" in height, with average build and short dark hair.
Firearm – Arrest: C17-127657
On June 12, 2017, at approximately 7:00 a.m., a General Patrol unit was travelling in the 500 block of William Avenue where they observed a suspicious female.
The female was stopped in the 500 block of Elgin Avenue where she informed officers that she was in possession of a sawed-off shotgun.
Officers subsequently located a loaded 12-gauge shotgun in a bag she had been carrying. Examination of the firearm revealed the serial number has been removed.
Jennifer Lynnette Cook, a 43-year-old female of Winnipeg, has been charged with a number of firearm-related offences and two counts of fail to comply probation.
She has been detained in custody.
Elderly Victims – Arrest: R17-27316
On April 12, 2017, the Winnipeg Police Service requested the public's assistance in locating Marcel Albert Paul, a 50-year-old male of Winnipeg.
Paul had been identified as having been involved in several suspicious incidents involving elderly individuals.
On June 13, 2017, Major Crime Unit investigators attended the Provincial Remand Centre and arrested Paul for a number of offences.
Paul has been charged for the following incidents:
- On March 2, 2017, a male attended to the 200 block of Templeton Avenue where he posed as a maintenance worker and gained entry to the suite of a 77-year-old female, leaving a short time later. The victim later reported that her purse had been stolen.
- On March 11, 2017, a male attended to a grocery store in the 200 block of St. Anne's Road where he approached an 85-year-old male and pretended to be an old acquaintance of the victim, obtaining personal information in the process. This led the male to the victim's residence in the nearby area where he entered an unlocked door and left. The victim later reported that cash had been stolen.
- On March 22, 2017, a male attended to a grocery store in the 1400 block of Main Street where he approached a 65-year-old male and pretended to be an old acquaintance of the victim, offering to carry the victim's groceries to his residence in the Elmwood area. As they arrived at the residence, the male gave the victim a hug and left. The victim reported that an attempt had been made to steal his wallet.
- On March 31, 2017, a male attended a grocery store in the 200 block of St. Anne's Road where he approached a 68-year-old female. The victim reported that her purse had been taken from the shopping chart and her keys had been used to steal her vehicle.
- On April 1, 2017, a male attended a grocery store in the 200 block of St. Anne's Road where he approached a 78-year-old male and pretended to be an old acquaintance of the victim, obtaining personal information in the process. This led the male to the victim's residence in the nearby area where he introduced himself to the victim's wife and gained entry to the residence. The victim returned home at this time, at which point the male fled.
- On April 6, 2017, a male attended to the 400 block of Ottawa Avenue where he posed as a Manitoba Hydro employee and gained entry to the residence of a 89-year-old male on the guise that there was a gas leak in the basement and left. The victim later reported that cash and identification had been stolen.
Paul has been detained in custody.

Injured Male: C17-128954
On June 13, 2017, at approximately 3:20 p.m., a female driver was travelling in the area of St. Mary's Road and Meadowood Drive when a 29-year-old male entered the front passenger side of her vehicle. Two females had been observed chasing the male.
The male, injured and agitated, threatened the female to drive. She subsequently drove to the area of St. Mary's Road and Vista Avenue where the male exited the vehicle and began to run in traffic.
He then unsuccessfully attempted to enter a second vehicle and punched it causing damage.
The male entered a third vehicle and was driven a short distance before fleeing and continuing to kick and punch at other vehicles.
Members of the Winnipeg Police Service attended and located the male. The male, suffering from a laceration to his upper body, was transported to hospital in critical condition but has since been upgraded to unstable condition.
It has since been determined that the male had been injured at a residence in the first 100 block of Glen Meadow Street. The circumstances of the injury remain unknown and the investigation is continuing.
The injured male will be facing charges of Mischief - Under $5,000 and Utter Threats for his involvement in the matter.
