Tuesday, June 27, 2017 Commercial Robbery - Arrest: C17-139933 Between February 15, 2016 and June 26, 2017 two commercial businesses and five financial institutions reported being robbed. In all cases, the suspect was a lone male who wore a disguise and threatened staff. The Winnipeg Police Major Crimes Unit entered into an investigation and were able to identify a suspect. On June 27, 2017 officers arrested: Rakesh Rakesh, 39-years-old of Winnipeg has been arrested and charged with the following offences: - ArmedRobbery Using a Firearm X3 - Disguise with Intent X6 - Robbery X4 - Possess Weapon Businesses at the following areas were targeted by the offender: Commercial business in the 2200 block of McPhillips St. on February 15, 2016 Commercial business in the 1000 block of McPhillips St. on February 19, 2016 Financial institution in the 1800 block of Main St. on March 4, 2016 Financial institution in the 1300 bloock of Ellice Ave. on May 11, 2016 Financial institution in the 1500 block of St. Mary's Rd. on March 9, 2017 Financial institution in the 600 block of St. James St. on March 27, 2017 Financial institution in the 1500 block of Regent Ave. on June 26, 2017 Attempt Murder - Arrest: C17-139602 On June 25, 2017, at approximately 9:50 p.m., Winnipeg Police responded to a report of a male shot in the rear lane of the 500 block of Sherbrook Street. The victim, 36-year-old male, was transported to hospital in critical condition. Members of the Winnipeg Police Service entered into an investigation, identifying a potential suspect. On June 26, 2017 at approximately 8:30 p.m. members of the Winnipeg Police Street Crime Unit conducted at traffic stop in the area of Main St. and Manitoba Ave. where the suspect was located. Officers located and seized a loaded handgun from the vehicle.
