Firearm Discharge Arrests: C17-184728
On August 19, 2017, at approximately 1:45 a.m., General Patrol units and members of the Tactical Support Team responded to the 200 block of Selkirk Avenue for a report of a shot that had been fired at a suite of a residence.
An investigation has determined that three adult males had driven to the area at which time a shotgun was fired through a front window. The males then fled. Three individuals were in the suite at the time, including an 18-month-old child. No injuries were reported.
The suspects were located a short time later at a residence in the 100 block of Selkirk Avenue. Police have also recovered a sawed-off shotgun.
This investigation continued by members of the Major Crimes Unit.
Richard Denis Champagne, a 47-year-old male of Winnipeg, and Timothy Hiebert, a 46-year-old male of Winnipeg, have been charged with:
- Careless Use of Firearm, Weapon, Prohibited Device or Ammunition
- Possession of a Weapon
- Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm
- Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm in Motor Vehicle
- Possession of a Prohibited Firearm with Ammunition
- Discharge a Firearm with Intent
- Mischief under $5,000/Obstruct in Enjoyment
Raymond Lorne Smith, a 62-year-old male of Scanterbury, has been charged with:
- Careless Use of Firearm, Weapon, Prohibited Device or Ammunition
- Possession of a Weapon
- Possession of a Firearm Knowing its Possession is Unauthorized
- Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm in Motor Vehicle
- Possession of a Prohibited Firearm with Ammunition
- Discharge a Firearm with Intent
- Mischief under $5,000/Obstruct in Enjoyment
They were detained in custody.
Stabbing Arrest: C17-184711
On August 19, 2017, at approximately 1:20 a.m., General Patrol units, and members of the Tactical Support Team and K9 unit, responded to a residence in the 1300 block of Raleigh Street for a report of a stabbing.
Upon arrival, a 20-year-old male victim was located suffering from numerous stab wounds. He was transported to hospital in critical condition but has since been upgraded to stable condition.
This investigation continued by members of the Major Crimes Unit.
It has been determined that the victim had been at a nearby party when a verbal dispute with a male escalated into an assault.
At approximately 7:30 am, investigators located a suspect male at a residence in the 1300 block of Raleigh Street and placed him under arrest.
A 15-year-old male of Winnipeg has been charged with:
- Aggravated Assault
- Possession of a Weapon
He was detained in custody.
Commercial Robberies Arrest: C17-185177
On August 19, 2017, at approximately 4:45 pm, West District General Patrol units responded to a gas station in the 2200 block of Pembina Highway for a report of a commercial robbery.
A lone suspect male had produced a knife and confronted an employee. The suspect fled empty handed but was arrested by police a short time later in the nearby area.
This investigation continued by members of the Major Crimes Unit.
It has been determined that the suspect was responsible for an additional three commercial robberies:
- On August 18, 2017, at approximately 1:30 p.m. at the same gas station in the 2200 block of Pembina Highway. A knife was produced and an undisclosed amount of money was obtained.
- On August 19, 2017, at approximately 12:30 p.m. at the same gas station in the 2200 block of Pembina Highway. A knife was produced and no money was obtained.
- On August 19, 2017, at approximately 4:30 p.m. at a drugstore in the 2200 block of Pembina Highway. A knife was produced and no money was obtained.
Darryl Joseph Desjarlais, a 45-year-old male of Winnipeg, has been charged with:
- Robbery (x4)
- Possession of a Weapon (x4)
- Carry Concealed Weapon
He was detained in custody.
Missing Person Located: C17-184556
As previously released yesterday:
The Winnipeg Police Service is requesting the public's assistance in locating a missing 73-year-old male, Franjo Sankovic.
Sankovic was last seen on August 18, 2017, at approximately 7:30 p.m. at a residence in the Heritage Park area of St. JamesAssiniboia. It is believed he may have left the area on foot.
Please be advised that Franjo Sankovic has been safely located.
