Monday, August 21, 2017 The Winnipeg Police Service experienced a busy, but not untypical weekend between Friday, August 18, and Sunday, August 20.
Our Communications Centre received almost 2,800 phone calls and dispatched officers to over 1,150 of these calls for service during this period. All calls for service are triaged and assigned a dispatch priority, with threats to an individual's immediate safety receiving the highest priority. As a result, a caller with a lower priority call can expect potentially lengthy delays in service during peak times.
A sampling of the type and numbers of calls we responded to is shown below:
- 17 Assaults with a Weapon - 59 Assaults - 167 Domestics - 98 Disturbances - 22 Disputes - 16 Damages - 21 Fights - 10 Gun (report of gun seen) - 43 Medic calls - 36 Missing Person calls - 33 Motor Vehicle Collisions - 19 Robberies - 7 Commercial Robberies - 7 Sexual Assaults - 8 Reports of Gunshots - 16 Stabbings - 53 Threat of Suicide - 93 Suspicious Circumstances - 21 Thefts - 28 Threats - 23 Arrest warrants - 17 Reports of a Weapon - 161 Calls to check on the Wellbeing of an Individual
Every call is important, but we ask and trust the public will be patient during particularly busy periods. | For further information contact either: Constable Rob Carver, Public Information Officer Constable Jay Murray, Public Information Officer Constable Tammy Skrabek, Public Information Officer Kelly Dehn, Manager of Public Affairs
