Weapons - Arrest: C170232334

On October 14, 2017, at approximately 8:40 a.m., members of the Winnipeg Police Tactical Support team (TST) observed a male walking and concealing a firearm in the area of Salter Street and Mountain Avenue. 

Members of TST confronted the male, where he responded by attempting to throw the weapon over a nearby fence.

The male was immediately apprehended, and the firearm recovered. 

The firearm was identified as a SKS style rifle with a large bayonet on the barrel, one round in the chamber, and one in the magazine.   He also had several rounds ammunition in his pockets.

One male has been charged with:

·         Possess Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose
·         Carry Conceal Weapon
·         Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm

 

He was detained in custody.

Stolen Vehicle – Arrest: C170232824

On October 14, 2017, at approximately 10:00 p.m., members of the Winnipeg Police Service observed a vehicle driving at a high rate of speed in the area Henderson Highway and Harbison Ave West.

Officers began to follow the vehicle, and it was learned that the license plate associated to the vehicle was stolen.   The vehicle continued to travel at a high rate of speed, nearly hitting pedestrians, and driving the wrong way into oncoming traffic.  Due to the high rate of speed and erratic manner of driving officers decided not to pursue the vehicle and requested the assistance of the Flight Operations Unit.   

AIR1 quickly re-acquired the vehicle, and with the assistance of the officers, all parties were apprehended in the area of Wabasha Street and Horton Avenue. 

In the course of the investigation it was learned that the observed vehicle had been reported stolen, and a large machete and another stolen licence plate were also found within the vehicle.

One female has been charged with:

·         Possess of Property Obtained by Crime over $5000
·         Possess of Property Obtained by Crime under $5000 (x2)
·         Possess of a Weapon for Dangerous Purpose

One male has been charged with:

·         Possess of Property Obtained by Crime over $5000
·         Possess of Property Obtained by Crime under $5000 (x2)
·         Possess of a Weapon for Dangerous Purpose
·         Flight While Pursed by Peace Officer
·         Dangerous Operation of Motor Vehicle
·         Drive Without Licence or with Valid Licence

All parties had been released on a Promise to Appear
