Robbery - Arrest: C18-16457/C18-17626
As previously released:
On January 23, 2018 at approximately 10:30 a.m., the Winnipeg Police Service was alerted to an assault in the 300 block of Portage Avenue. Officers attended and located a 17-year-old victim with serious upper body injuries. The male was transported to hospital in stable condition. He was treated for multiple injuries and released.
   
Officers learned the victim was waiting in a bus shelter when he was approached by an unknown male, viciously attacked and robbed.
   
On January 24, 2018 at approximately 12:30 p.m., the same male suspect attended a parking lot in 2300 block of McPhillips Street where he damaged a window to one vehicle and then approached a vehicle being parked. He forced the 56-year-old male driver out of his vehicle and drove away with the vehicle.
   
This vehicle was subsequently located, abandoned in the area of Gimli, Manitoba. A pickup truck was stolen from this location.
   
At approximately 9:13 p.m., it was reported that the same truck stopped for fuel in the 5000 block of Portage Avenue and that the driver fled without paying.
   
At approximately 9:30 p.m., general patrol officers spotted the stolen vehicle travelling in the area of Portage Avenue and Maryland Street and began to follow the suspect vehicle. After a short distance the suspect vehicle increased speed and attempted to flee. Air1 arrived overhead and ground patrol officers disengaged. Air1 continued to follow and monitor the suspect's location while officers attempted to slow the vehicle using stop sticks. The driver continued his attempt at evading police, driving with damaged tires.
   
In the area of Portage Avenue and Broadway Street, the vehicle became stuck in traffic. As officers approached the vehicle, the driver turned the vehicle toward one of the approaching officers, causing the officer to jump out of harm's way.
   
At approximately 9:51 p.m., the truck was safely stopped in the 1900 block of Portage Avenue.
   
During the pursuit of this vehicle, the suspect vehicle was involved in three minor accidents; however, no injuries were reported.
   
Joshua Zachary SNAKESKIN, 26-years-old has been arrested and charged with:

  • Assault Pease Officer with a Weapon
  • Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle
  • Aggravated Assault
  • Robbery
  • Mischief Under $5000
  • Flight While Pursued by Peace Officer
  • Theft of Motor Vehicle
  • Theft Under $5000

He has been detained in custody.
   
Robbery - Arrests: C17-284998
On December 20, 2017 the Winnipeg Police Service was alerted to a male robbed by several other people. Officers attended and met with the adult male victim who reported that on December 19, 2017 he made arrangements through an on-line dating site to meet a female at a residence in the 300 block of Maryland Street.
   
Shortly after midnight, the victim attended to the residence and was welcomed in by two females. Once in the house, the females demanded money from the victim which he disputed as he was under the impression that his was a consensual encounter.
   
Three males then emerged from within the residence and also demanded money. When the victim refused to pay, he was attacked. The victim smashed a window in an effort to escape the house, however the group continued to assault the victim during which time he was struck in the upper body several times with a metal object. The victim was then bound, forced into his vehicle and driven to his house from which the suspects entered and removed valuables.
   
The victim was driven to another location where the vehicle was abandoned with the victim inside. The victim was able to let himself out of the vehicle and get help.
   
Responding units located five suspects in the 300 block of Maryland Street. All were taken into custody are arrested.
   
On January 24, 2018, a sixth suspect, a 16-year-old female, turned herself in.
   
A 33-years-old female, 27-years-old male, 15-year-old and 17-year-old females, and a 16-year-old male were arrested and detained in custody. They have been charged with a number of offences, including Aggravated Assault, Forcible Confinement, Kidnapping, and Robbery.
   
In addition, 20-year-old male was arrested and released on a Promise to Appear.
   
Mischief - Arrests: C18-3407
Between January 12, 2018 and January 13, 2018 with Winnipeg Police Service was alerted to several incidents of graffiti in the area of Portage Avenue and Isbister Street.
   
Officers from the West District Station entered into an investigation. After canvassing the neighbourhood, they discovered that graffiti was painted on several homes, vehicles and buildings in the area, causing thousands of dollars of damage.
   
Video evidence was obtained and officers successfully identified three suspects.
   
On January 24, 2018 a 20-year-old male and two 19-year-old females were arrested and charged with Mischief Over $5000 x8 and Mischief Under X2.
   
All three have been detained in custody.
