Stolen Vehicles – Public Advisory

The Winnipeg Police Service has recently seen a 54% increase in vehicle thefts over the month of May into June.

A majority of thefts were taken as a result of vehicles that had been left running, stolen keys, or keys that had been left hidden inside vehicles.

These thefts were preventable and the Winnipeg Police Service would like to remind the public of several important safety tips:

- Never leave your vehicle unattended while running with the keys in the ignition.

- Do not leave your keys inside the vehicle, whether they are hidden or not.

- Keys left at home (or at your business) should always be hidden. This will help prevent the theft of your vehicle if your home (or business) is broken into.
