Carjacking – Arrests: C18-120421
 
On June 7, 2018, at approximately 10:00 p.m., members of the Winnipeg Police Service responded to the report of a carjacking in the 1600 block of Roy Avenue.
 
A homeowner had returned to her residence and began to exit her vehicle when two young females approached. The females attempted to rob her of the vehicle and the victim was struck over the head with a bottle.
 
A neighbour, who had been getting ready to leave for work, saw the incident and came to the aid of the homeowner. The neighbour was threatened and together the two victims retreated to safety. The homeowner suffered minor injuries.
 
The two suspects then used this opportunity to steal the neighbour's vehicle. While doing so, the neighbour's fiancé attempted to stop the theft and was dragged approximately 10-15 feet. The fiancé suffered minor injuries.
 
The stolen vehicle was driven around the Weston area where it struck several vehicles. A short time later, officers located the vehicle travelling in the area of Arlington Street and Logan Avenue.
 
The vehicle was followed to the area of Sinclair Street and Magnus Avenue where officers attempted to bring the vehicle to a stop using a containment method. The stolen vehicle fled and a pursuit was initiated. The vehicle was followed to a parking lot in the 2300 block of McPhillips Street where it collided with two curbs and struck an unoccupied vehicle, becoming inoperable.
 
Officers immediately took both suspects into custody. They sustained minor injuries as a result of the collision and were later medically cleared in hospital.
 
A 14-year-old female has been charged with:
 
- Robbery (x2)
- Uttering Threats - Cause Death or Bodily Harm
- Dangerous Operation of Motor Vehicle
- Flight while Pursued by Peace Officer
- Driving While Ability Impaired
- Driving with More Than 80 mgs of Alcohol in Blood
- Fail to Comply with Sentence
- Fail to Comply Condition Undertaking by Judge/Justice (x4)
 
A 16-year-old female has been charged with:
 
- Robbery (x2)
- Fail to Comply with Sentence
 
They were detained in custody.
 
Weapons/Firearms – Arrests: C18-120342
 
During the late evening of June 7, 2018, members of the West District Community Support Unit, with the assistance of the Tactical Support Team, K9 and AIR 1, executed a Criminal Code search warrant at a hotel room in the 1800 block of Pembina Highway.
 
Three individuals were taken into custody and the investigation has led to the seizure of a number of items including the following:
 
- .22 calibre improvised "zip gun"-style firearm
- Approximately one hundred rounds of .22 calibre ammunition
- Two serrated knives (5" & 7")
- Gun powder
- Six .223 calibre rounds
- Five 20-gauge shotgun shells
- Six 12-gauge shotgun shells
- BB pellets
- BB handgun
 
Ken John Krul, a 23-year-old male of Winnipeg, has been charged with:
 
- Possession of a Firearm Knowing its Possession is Unauthorized
- Possession of a Firearm or Ammunition Contrary to Prohibition Order (x9)
- Possession of a Weapon (x2)
- Fail to Comply with Probation Order (x2)
 
Justin Mathew Melo, a 31-year-old male of Hamilton, Ontario, has been charged with:
 
- Possession of a Firearm Knowing its Possession is Unauthorized
- Possession of a Firearm or Ammunition Contrary to Prohibition Order (x6)
- Possession of a Weapon (x2)
- Fail to Comply Condition Recognizance by Judge/Justice (x5)
- Fail to Comply with Probation Order
 
Melo was also processed on an outstanding warrant for:
 
- Fail to Comply Probation Order
 
Krul and Melo were detained in custody.
 
A 23-year-old female of Winnipeg has been arrested for:
 
- Possession of a Prohibited or Restricted Firearm with Ammunition
- Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm
- Possession of a Weapon (x2)
 
She was released on a Promise to Appear.
 
Weapons/Firearms – Arrest: C18-120760
 
On June 8, 2018, at approximately 9:20 a.m., members of the Bear Clan were in the area of Pritchard Avenue and McKenzie Street when a group of individuals were overheard talking about a firearm and a female was observed carrying a machete in a purse.
 
Tactical Support Team and District 3 General Patrol unit officers were dispatched and located the group in a back lane near Selkirk Avenue and McGregor Street. As officers made contact, a male dropped a bag and an object and the group ran. Officers gave chase on foot and apprehended the male in a yard in the 500 block of Flora Avenue.
 
A search of the area where the items had been dropped resulted in the seizure of a long gun-style replica air rifle in a bag and a handgun-style replica air pistol. 
 
Robert John Arthur Prince, a 33-year-old male of Winnipeg, has been charged with:
 
- Possession of a Firearm Knowing its Possession is Unauthorized (x2)
- Possession of a Firearm or Ammunition Contrary to Prohibition Order (x8)
- Fail to Comply Condition Recognizance by Judge/Justice (x5)
 
He was detained in custody.
 
Weapons/Firearms – Arrest: C18-121552
 
On June 9, 2018, at approximately 2:55 a.m., the Winnipeg Police Service received a report of a shot being heard in the area of Andrews Street and Redwood Avenue. District 3 General Patrol officers were dispatched and met with members of the Bear Clan who had been in the area and confirmed they had heard a shot.
 
While searching the area, two reports were received at approximately 3:30 a.m. indicating several more shots had been heard.
 
At approximately 3:50 a.m., officers observed a male in a back lane of Boyd Avenue between McGregor Street and Andrews Street. The male appeared to be avoiding police and was stopped. A search of the male resulted in the seizure of two 12-gauge shotgun shells.
 
Officers also located an improvised "bang stick"-style firearm near the male which contained a 12-gauge shotgun shell in it.
 
Jimmy Oliver Leo Spence, a 22-year-old male of Winnipeg, has been charged with:
 
- Possession of a Prohibited Firearm with Ammunition
- Carrying Concealed Weapon Prohibited Device or Ammunition
- Possession of a Weapon
- Possession of a Firearm Knowing its Possession is Unauthorized
- Possession of a Firearm or Ammunition Contrary to Prohibition Order (x4)
 
He was detained in custody.
