Robbery - Arrests: C18-146971

On July 8, 2018, at approximately 7:25 p.m., the Winnipeg Police Service was alerted to a Break and Enter in the 300 block of Wyper Rd. The victims, a 62-year-old female, and a 63-year-old male indicated they were assaulted by two males, one armed with a firearm and one with a bladed weapon. The suspects fled in the homeowner's vehicle.

Emergency personnel, including WFPS, RCMP and General Patrol officers attended. The female victim was transported to hospital in stable condition.

Officers learned that the female resident went outside in response to her dogs barking. She was confronted by a male who pointed a firearm at her while the other male suspect walked past her and attempted to gain entry to the residence.  The female attempted to run and was seriously assaulted.

The second male suspect entered the residence and assaulted the male victim. The female victim entered the residence and was assaulted by the second male suspect. A female suspect was present at the time of the assaults.  

The suspect armed with the firearm then entered the residence and assaulted the male victim, before both the males and the female fled in the homeowner's vehicle. 

At approximately 7:20 p.m. members of the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) were responding to a call with their emergency equipment activated in the area of Kenaston Blvd and Sterling Lyon Parkway.  The same suspects, operating a motor vehicle, narrowly missed colliding with the WFPS vehicle.

At approximately 7:25 p.m. the suspects were operating the same vehicle at a high rate of speed when they struck a 31-year-old male pedestrian in the area of Cambridge Street and Academy Road.  The victim suffered serious lower body injuries and was treated in hospital.

The suspects continued to drive in a dangerous manner, striking several fences in the area. Officers observed the vehicle in the area of Simcoe Street and Wellington Avenue where they attempted to stop it. The vehicle sped away and lost control in the area of Sargent Avenue and Beverley Street. The occupants fled on foot and a male and female were arrested in the immediate area.

Officers searched the vehicle and located a sawed-off rifle and magazine inside.

Later the same day the vehicle stolen from Wyper Road was recovered in a field off of Wyper Road.

Investigators learned that the male arrested was responsible for several thefts from Manitoba Liquor and Lottery Commission (MLLC) stores throughout Winnipeg and stole approximately $4000.00 worth of liquor products between June 1 and July 8, 2018.  

On June 11, 2018, a 2011 Toyota Corolla was stolen from the 300 block of Dumoulin Street. On June 17, 2018, the arrested male gassed the vehicle up in the 1000 block of Notre Dame Avenue and fled without paying. The stolen vehicle was recovered on June 22, 2018, by members of the Canadian Pacific Police Service in a rail yard.

On June 25, 2018, a black 2016 Dodge Ram was stolen from the 100 block of Hargrave Street. On July 6, 2018, the arrested male was seen entering the stolen vehicle after a theft from an MLCC store in the 1600 block of Ness Avenue. The truck has not been recovered.

Nicholas Donald HARPER, a 27-year old male has been charged with:

  • Break and Enter and Commit Robbery
  • Assault with a Weapon X2
  • Pointing a Firearm X2
  • Possess Weapon
  • Possession of a Firearm, Restricted/Prohibited Weapon or Ammunition Contrary to Prohibition Order X2
  • Possess Firearm Knowing its Possession is Unauthorized X2
  • Use Firearm During Commission of an Indictable Offence
  • Careless Use of Firearm, Weapon, Prohibited Device or Ammunition
  • Transport Firearm or Restricted Weapon Contrary to Regulations
  • Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm in Motor Vehicle
  • Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5000 X2
  • Robbery
  • Theft Under $5000 X4
  • Possession of Loaded Prohibited or Restricted Firearm
  • Tampering with Serial Number of a Firearm
  • Carry Concealed Weapon, prohibited Device or Ammunition
  • Theft of Motor Vehicle
  • Dangerous Operation of Motor Vehicle X2
  • Fail to Stop at the Scene of an Accident
  • Driving While Disqualified
  • Flight While Pursued by Police Officer

Susan Kitty THOMPSON,a 22-year-old female of Winnipeg has been charged with:

  • Break, Enter and Commit Robbery
  • Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5000
  • Possess Weapon
  • Transport Firearm or Restricted Weapon Contrary to Regulations
  • Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm in Motor Vehicle
  • Possession of Loaded Prohibited or Restricted Firearm
  • Tampering with Serial Number of a Firearm
  • Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm
  • Fail to Comply with Recognizance X2

Both have been detained at the Winnipeg Remand Centre.

A second male suspect remains outstanding.

Robbery - Investigation: C18-45443

On July 16, 2018, at approximately 4:45 p.m., the Winnipeg Police Service was alerted to a robbery which occurred along the riverbank bike trial in the 2500 block of Roblin Blvd.

The victim, a 14-year-old male, advised that he was riding his bike along the trail when two males exited the trees along the trail and stood in front of him, preventing him from riding any further. One of the males grabbed the victim from behind, pulling him off of his bike while the second male held onto the bike. The suspect struck the victim and grabbed his shoulder bag.

Both suspects ran off with the victim's bike and bag. The bike is described as a black specialized Epic Eagle mountain bike with red writing.

The victim received minor injuries as a result of the attack.

The suspects are described as follows:

  • Suspect #1: Male, Indigenous in appearance, 18-19 years of age with a thin build. He was approximately 5'10" tall with black hair and bangs.
  • Suspect #2: Male, Indigenous in appearance, approximately 6' tall with a thin build and short black hair.
