UPDATE -HOMICIDE INVESTIGATION - ARREST C13-106171
As previously released- On June 2, 2013 at approximately 9:10 a.m., members of the Winnipeg Police Service responded to the rear of the 200 block of Dumoulin Street regarding a body located.
 
It was determined that a male had sustained upper body injuries considered to be suspicious in nature.
 
The deceased was identified as 23 year old, Kyle DEVASCONCELOS of Winnipeg.
 
The investigation continued by members of the Homicide Unit with the assistance of the Forensic Identification Unit.
 
The investigation has since revealed that the victim had attended to a party during the early morning hours on June 2nd, 2013 in the area of the 100 block of Notre Dame Avenue.  While in attendance, the victim became involved in an argument with a male acquaintance which escalated into a physical confrontation. It was at this time the victim was seriously assaulted.
 
The suspect, including the victim fled the area. The victim eventually collapsed and succumbed to his injuries.
 
On June 4, 2013 at approximately 1:50 p.m., officers arrested 23 year old Jorden FRIES of Winnipeg and charged him with 2nd Degree Murder. He was detained.
 
 
MOTOR VEHICLE COLLISION – IMPAIRED DRIVING – ARREST
C13-108094
On June 5, 2013 at approximately 12:20 a.m., Patrol members came across a motor vehicle collision that just occurred involving multiple vehicles in the area of York Avenue and Smith Street.
 
The investigation has revealed that two vehicles were stopped at a red light travelling in a northbound direction on Smith Street. Upon the light turning green, both vehicles entered the intersection when an eastbound vehicle struck a Nissan Xterra which then struck a Chevrolet Cruze. The driver of the eastbound vehicle, a GMC van, failed to remain at the scene of the collision.
 
Injuries sustained were non-life-threatening.
 
The driver of the GMC van was located in the area and arrested.
 
Sukhwinder SIDU, 29 years old has been charged with the following offences due to his alleged involvement: Impaired Driving Cause Bodily Harm x 2, Failure to Provide a Breath Sample and (HTA) Fail to Remain at the Scene of an Accident.
 
 
ROBBERY INVESTIGATION R13-38302
On June 4, 2013, members of the Winnipeg Police Service received the report of a purse-snatch incident which occurred in the area of Manitoba Avenue and Arlington Street involving a 33 year-old female victim.
 
The victim was confronted from behind by two male youths on bikes while walking in the area at approximately 10:50 a.m. The suspects took hold of her purse and fled. The victim was robbed of an undisclosed amount of cash and identification.
 
The suspects are described as:
 
Suspect 1
Male, Aboriginal in appearance, 17-19 years-old, medium build, 130-150 lbs., brush cut, wearing: dark clothing and having a tattoo near his right eye.
 
Suspect 2
Male, Aboriginal in appearance, 17-19 years-old, skinny build, 12-130 lbs., brush cut, wearing: dark clothing and having a tattoo on the right side of his neck area.
