Serious Assault Arrest – C16-128069
On June 21, 2016 at approximately 2:00 p.m., a male and female suspect forced entry into a home located in the 300 block of Qu'Appelle Avenue. Once inside, a 27 year old occupant was confronted, physically assaulted and robbed of property.
   
While the victim lay on the floor, a flammable liquid was poured on to him and ignited. The suspects fled leaving the victim behind as he screamed for help. A passer-by heard the calls for help and called 911.
   
Emergency personnel responded and located an injured 27 year old male. He was transported to hospital with numerous serious injuries. He is in stable condition.
   
At approximately 2:30 p.m., Royce Darcy BERENS, 34 years old was located in the area and placed under arrest.
   
He has been charged with numerous offences due to his alleged involvement and remanded into custody.
   
The investigation continues by members of the Major Crimes Unit. Anyone with further information is asked to call 204-986-3919 or Crime Stoppers at 204-786-TIPS (8477).
   
   
Fire Investigation – C16-128501
On June 22, 2016 at approximately 3:40 a.m., emergency personnel responded to a residence located in the 300 block of Aberdeen Avenue regarding a fire incident.
   
A 50 year old male resident was removed from the home and transported to hospital in critical condition.
   
The cause of the fire is still under investigation. Anyone with further information regarding this incident is asked to contact investigators at 204-986-6508 or Crime Stoppers at 204-786-TIPS (8477).
