Commercial Robberies – Arrest: C17-138619
On June 23, 2017 at approximately 3:30 p.m., a suspect male entered a retail pharmacy chain in the first 100 block of Osborne Street while concealing his face and armed with a blunt object. The male approached an employee and threatened to rob the business but was unsuccessful in obtaining any goods and fled empty-handed.
At approximately 4:05 p.m., a suspect male entered a grocery store in the 200 block of River Avenue while concealing his face and armed with a knife. The male approached an employee and her child while making demands, robbing the business of an undisclosed quantity of money and merchandise before fleeing.
At approximately 11:30 p.m., a suspect male entered a gas station in the 1300 block of Taylor Avenue. The male approached an employee and robbed the business of an undisclosed amount of money before fleeing.
Members of the Major Crimes Unit entered into an investigation and determined a single suspect was likely responsible for all three robberies.
On June 24, 2017 at approximately 3:00 p.m., the suspect male entered a beer vendor in the first 100 block of Keewatin Street while concealing his face and armed with a blunt object. The male approached an employee and threatened to rob the business but was unsuccessful in obtaining any goods and fled empty-handed.
While responding to the incident, a K9 officer observed the suspect in the 1500 block of Notre Dame Avenue and placed him under arrest.
Major Crime Unit members continued with the investigation.
Brendon Malcolm McIvor, a 34-year-old male of Cross Lake, has been charged with:
- Robbery (x4)
- Disguise with Intent (x4)
- Carry Concealed Weapon
He was detained in custody.
Firearm – Arrest: C17-138756
On June 24, 2017 at approximately 6:50 p.m., Division 11 Community Support Unit members encountered a known male in the 100 block of Isabel Street who was the subject of an arrest warrant.
In dealing with the male, officers discovered a sawed-off rifle concealed on his person.
Stephen Michael Toews, a 27-year-old male of Winnipeg, has been charged with:
- Possession of a Firearm, Restricted/Prohibited Weapon or Ammunition Contrary to Prohibition Order (x3)
- Tampering with Serial Number of a Firearm
- Possession of a Firearm Knowing its Possession is Unauthorized
- Carrying Concealed Weapon Prohibited Device or Ammunition
- Handle Firearm or Restricted Weapon Contrary to Regulations
- Possession of a Weapon
- Fail to Comply Probation Order
- Warrant (Fail to Comply Probation Order)
He was detained in custody.
Stabbing – Investigation: C17-139065
On June 25, 2017, at approximately 3:00 a.m., emergency personnel responded to a report of a large fight in front of a nightclub in the 200 block of Bannatyne Avenue.
Upon arrival, an adult male was located suffering from stab wounds to his upper body. The male was transported to hospital in critical condition where he remains.
