Monday, October 30, 2017   Firearm – Arrest: C17-245202   During October 2017, Division 11 General Patrol members began an investigation into a male that was in possession of a firearm.   On October 27, 2017, at approximately 11 a.m., members of the West District & District 3 Community Support Units, along with the Street Crime Unit and Tactical Support Team, executed a criminal code search warrant at a suite within an apartment in the 1600 block of Notre Dame Avenue.    A male was placed under arrest and the investigation led to the seizure of a number of items including the following:   - A loaded .22 LR calibre/.410 gauge over/under combination gun with both barrels sawed off and a defaced serial number.  - 28 .22 calibre cartridges. - 1.87 grams of ketamine (valued at approximately $180). - 1.34 grams of methamphetamine (valued at approximately $195).   Keith James William Stewner, a 43-year-old male of Winnipeg, has been charged with:   - Possession of a Firearm Knowing its Possession is Unauthorized (x2) - Possession of a Prohibited or Restricted Firearm with Ammunition - Possession of a Weapon (x2) - Possession of Firearm, Restricted/Prohibited Weapon or Ammunition Contrary to Prohibition Order (x2) - Store Firearm or Restricted Weapon Contrary to Regulations (x2) - Tampering with Serial Number of a Firearm - Possession for the Purpose of Weapons Trafficking - Possession of a Scheduled Substance - Methamphetamine - Possession of a Scheduled Substance - Ketamine - Fail to Comply with Probation Order   He was detained in custody.   Break & Enters/Frauds – Arrest: C17-201860   Members of the Major Crimes Unit recently conducted a lengthy theft and fraud investigation.   Between September 8, 2017, and September 27, 2017, a suspect male targeted elderly female citizens who he observed working in the yards of their properties. The suspect would then enter their residences and steal their purses in order to obtain money, credit or debit cards. He would then attend to convenience stores and purchase items.   The total value of the fraudulent transactions is approximately $800.   On October 29, 2017, members of the Major Crimes Unit attended the Milner Ridge Correctional Centre and placed a male under arrest.   Gregory Francis Courchene, a 46-year-old male of Winnipeg, has been charged with:   - Possession of Property Obtained by Crime (x3) - Fraud under $5,000 (x4) - Break Enter & Theft - Dwelling House   He was detained in custody.    The Winnipeg Police Service would like to remind citizens to be mindful of home security at all hours of the day, when present or away. As the weather cools, please keep your doors and windows locked while shovelling snow, sleeping or when you're away from the house.
