Robbery – Arrest: C17-259984
 
On November 17, 2017, at approximately 11:30 p.m., a male was picked up by a taxicab in the area of Notre Dame Avenue and Weston Street. The male was driven to the 2100 block of Gallagher Avenue at which time a verbal argument ensued with the driver.
 
The suspect exited the vehicle and walked to the driver's side door where he produced a handgun and pointed it at the driver while demanding money. At one point, the driver was struck in the head with the weapon causing an injury.
 
The driver, a 43-year-old male, was robbed of an undisclosed amount of money and the suspect fled on foot. Division 11 General Patrol members arrived on scene and attended to the driver who was transported to hospital in stable condition.
 
With the assistance of the K9 unit and AIR1, the suspect was tracked to the 1400 block of Logan Avenue where he was taken into custody. A replica CO2 air gun and money was recovered.
 
This investigation continued by members of the Major Crimes Unit.
 
Travis Edmard Melvin Francis, a 29-year-old male of Winnipeg, has been charged with:
 
- Armed Robbery using a Firearm
- Use of Firearm during Commission of an Indictable Offence
- Pointing a Firearm
- Fail to Comply with Probation Order (x2)
 
He was detained in custody.
 
Stabbing – Investigation: C17-260103
 
On November 18, 2017, at approximately 4:00 a.m., emergency personnel responded to a report of a stabbing in the 900 block of Kimberly Avenue.
 
Upon arrival, an injured male was located and transported to hospital in critical condition where he remains.
 
This investigation is still in the preliminary stages and is continuing by members of the Major Crimes Unit. Anyone with information that may assist investigators is asked to call 204-986-6219 or Crime Stoppers at 204-786-TIPS (8477).
