Aggravated Assault - Arrest: C17-256808
It was reported to the Winnipeg Police that on November 8, 2017 an adult male attended to a gas station at 1909 Main Street, gassed up a vehicle and left without paying.
   
On November 13, 2017 at approximately 11:45 p.m., an adult male victim attended to a parking lot in the 100 block of Higgins Avenue. The victim encountered two males and after a short interaction, was shot once in the lower body with a shotgun.
   
Members of the Tactical Support Unit attended and provided first aid. The victim was transported to hospital in critical condition.
   
On November 15, 2017, Nelson Joseph BERARD, 39-years-old of Portage La Prairie was arrested and charged with:

  • Aggravated Assault
  • Use of Firearm with Intent
  • Discharge Firearm with Intent
  • Armed Robbery Using a Restricted Firearm or Prohibited Firearm
  • Possession of a Firearm Knowing its Unauthorized
  • Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm in a Motor Vehicle
  • Possession of a Weapon
  • Possession of a Firearm, Restricted/Prohibited Weapon or Ammunition Contrary to Prohibition Order 

On November 30, 2017, a vehicle was broken into in the 200 block of Dalhousie Dr. and personal items were removed.
   
On December 4, 2017, members of the Major Crimes Unit located and arrested Burt Gillis STEUART, 35-years-old of Winnipeg has been charged with the following offences:

  • Aggravated Assault
  • Discharge Firearm
  • Use of a firearm During Commission of an Offence
  • Armed Robbery Using a Restricted Firearm or Prohibited Firearm
  • Possession of a Firearm Knowing its Unauthorized
  • Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm in a Motor Vehicle
  • Possession of a Weapon
  • Possession of a Firearm, Restricted/Prohibited Weapon or Ammunition Contrary to Prohibition Order
  • Fail to Comply with Rrecognizance (x8)
  • Theft under $5000
  • Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5000 (x2)

 
Members of the Major Crimes Unit executed a search warrant at a residence in the first 100 block of Macalester Bay; located in the garage was a 2007 Dodge Caliber, previously reported stolen from the Portage La Prairie area. Personal property stolen from the previously mentioned vehicle was also located.
   
Both males were detained in custody.
   
Robbery - Arrest: C17-272658
On December 4, 2017 at approximately 1:40 a.m. an adult male attendant alerted Winnipeg Police to a robbery at a gas station in the 1400 block of Henderson Hwy. General Patrol, Tactical Support Team and Air 1 members responded. The suspect fled with money and the attendant was not injured.
   
At approximately 4:30 a.m., Winnipeg Police were alerted to another Robbery of an adult female attendant at a gas station in the 900 block of Henderson Hwy. Money was stolen and no one was injured.
   
At approximately 7:50 a.m., an adult male reported a robbery while working at a convenience store in the 1000 block of McGregor St. The suspect obtained money. The employee was not injured.
   
At approximately 11:15 a.m. an adult male working at a gas station in the 100 block of Salter St. also reported a robbery. Nothing was stolen.
   
Minutes later, an adult male and adult female reported a robbery while working at a convenience store in the 100 block of Salter St. The suspect received money and fled.
   
Later that same day, a vehicle used by the suspect in the robberies was located in the first 100 block of Barber Ave.
   
On December 5, 2017 members of the Major Crimes Unit arrested Zachary Leonard Gordon BROWN, 29-years-old of Winnipeg. He has been charged with Robbery X3, Armed Robbery X2 and Disguise with Intent and detained in custody.
