International Women's Day -  Inspiring the Future, Redrawing the Balance

March 8, 2018 is International Women's Day. The day provides an opportunity to celebrate the achievements of women throughout history and across nations, it is also an opportunity to recognize women in our own community and press for progress in shaping a brighter, more inclusive future for our young people.

As part of our broader WPS in Schools initiatives, we are proud to partner with a number of other community organizations to help children of all ages and all genders find inspiration and courage from diverse women role models.

This year, female officers with the Winnipeg Police Service have partnered with other women working in the community to share information about their careers with elementary school students. More than 800 students from 24 Winnipeg Schools are taking part in the initiative. Our goal is to broaden the aspirations and interests of children about jobs and careers.

Organizations taking part in the initiative include:

  • Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service
  • Winnipeg Airport Authority
  • 17 Wing Command
  • Magellan Aerospace
  • Bockstael Construction
  • Winnipeg Regional Health Authority
  • Health Sciences Centre

Several schools are accepting media attendance throughout the day. For more information contact the Winnipeg Police Public Information Office as (204)986-3061.
