Aggravated Assault – Arrest: C18-138245
On June 27, 2018, at approximately 7:30 p.m., General Patrol and Central Traffic Unit members responded to a report of a female victim that had been stabbed in the arm with a needle at a shopping mall in the 1200 block of St. Mary's Road. The suspect female had since fled.
Upon arrival, officers worked with security personnel to locate the suspect in another part of the mall where she was taken into custody. A search of her resulted in the seizure of 1.10 grams of methamphetamine, a number of syringes, stolen merchandise and identification in the name of another female.
The victim was transported to hospital where she received medical treatment.
Major Crime Unit detectives continued with the investigation. It is believed that the victim and the suspect were in the same store when, without warning or provocation, the suspect stabbed the victim in the arm with a hypodermic needle with a syringe containing a fluid though to contain a destructive or noxious thing. The suspect then fled the store with stolen items causing a security sensor to activate an audible alarm.
The victim and the suspect were not known to each other.
Jessie Kayla Genaille, a 30-year-old female of Winnipeg, has been charged with:
- Aggravated Assault
- Administer Noxious Thing with Intent – Endanger Life or Cause Bodily Harm
- Possession of Scheduled Substance – Methamphetamine
- Possession of an Identity Document
- Theft under $5,000
- Fail to Comply with Probation Order (x2)
She was detained in custody.
Smart Policing Initiative – Arrests: C18-138458
Over the past two weeks, the Winnipeg Police Service received the report of numerous vehicles being vandalized or broken into in the area of Ellice Avenue and Wall Street.
As a result, officers began to target the area using the Smart Policing Initiative, which is an intelligence-led, evidence-based policing program designed to increase our proactive policing potential through the use of data analysis, focused prevention and deterrence strategies.
On June 28, 2018, at approximately 12:30 a.m., West District General Patrol members were in the area of Sargent Avenue and Valour Road when they observed a group of three individuals on bicycles in violation of the Highway Traffic Act.
Officers attempted to speak with the group; however one male fled and was pursued. The male eventually tripped and resisted officers as he was taken into custody. A search of him resulted in the seizure of bolt cutters, a wire cutter and a tire iron.
The other two individuals, a male and a female, were located at Ellice Avenue and Garfield Street and were placed under arrest. A search of the male resulted in the seizure of a black flashlight, a multi-tool and a pouch containing numerous tools. A search of the female resulted in the seizure of 1.13 grams of methamphetamine.
Alex Vern James Borkowski, a 27-year-old male of Winnipeg, has been charged with:
- Possession of Break-In Instrument(s)
- Resist Peace Officer
- Fail to Comply Condition Recognizance by Judge/Justice (x2)
- Fail to Comply with Probation Order (x2)
He was processed on three outstanding warrants for charges that include:
- Fail to Comply with Probation Order (x2)
- Fail to Comply Condition Recognizance (x3)
Christopher Robert Baron, a 40-year-old male of Winnipeg, has been charged with:
- Possession of Scheduled Substance – Methamphetamine
- Possession of Break-In Instrument(s)
Holly Ann Marie Rundle, a 43-year-old female of Winnipeg, has been charged with:
- Possession of Scheduled Substance – Methamphetamine
- Possession of Break-In Instrument(s)
They have been detained in custody.
